Here’s a synopsis of an excellent post by Adam Singer, How to Write Compelling Social News Headlines; check out the complete source article for a discussion of each recommendation:
Crafting unmissable headlines which resonate with social users is something which appears deceptively simple. Yet it’s an art form requiring writers, bloggers and marketers to craft thousands of headlines to perfect.

In the world of SEO, there’s nothing worse than finding out that your site is no longer listed in the search engines. In many cases, you may be missing a whole site, or several pages, because of one or more simple problems that can be resolved fairly quickly. Also, if you have a new site that hasn’t gotten any search engine attention at all, you may want to look and make sure you’re telling the search engine spiders that they’re allowed to come in and take a look around.

Online Applications and highly-interactive web sites written in full-on programming languages are becoming the norm on the web, not the rare exception. Measuring these applications is challenging for a whole host of reasons. In my last post, I talked about the importance of automated testing to bring measurement fully into the application development life-cycle. In today’s post, I’m going to cover an issue that plagues application measurement, video and most other rich media measurement – how to balance cost vs. coverage when it comes to measurement.

Darren Rowse poses an interesting question in asking What are Your Favorite 10 Blogging Tools? It clearly also is a topic that will generate a great deal of comment and discussion given the popularity of his Problogger blog.
It’s time for a little discussion – lets talk blogging tools. Over in the ProBlogger.com forum there’s been a lot of talk about different tools, applications, platforms and plugins that helps to improve blogs. I’m loving the different opinions and experiences and thought it’d be a good question to open up to the wider community – what are your favourite 10 blogging tools? I suspect most of us will probably include our blogging platform (Blogspot, WordPress, TypePad etc) in the list somewhere but other than that anything goes. Perhaps it’s a comments tool, perhaps a desktop editor, perhaps a plugin or widget – anything goes!

Anyone who writes a regular blog knows about writers block. But no matter how much time you spend staring at that blank page, the article just never writes itself.
Pity.
So how do you overcome writers block?
Here are a few tips.
Topic Selection
It’s not that there aren’t plenty of topics to write about, the problem is we often feel we need to say something new. The reality is that not much is genuinely new. We all stand on the shoulders of giants. (more…)

CAPTCHA acronym for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart” is a way for sites to block spam. According to Wikipedia it is
“A CAPTCHA is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer. The process usually involves one computer (a server) asking a user to complete a simple test which the computer is able to generate and grade. Because other computers are unable to solve the CAPTCHA, any user entering a correct solution is presumed to be human. Thus, it is sometimes described as a reverse Turing test, because it is administered by a machine and targeted to a human, in contrast to the standard Turing test that is typically administered by a human and targeted to a machine. A common type of CAPTCHA requires that the user type letters or digits from a distorted image that appears on the screen.”

Have you ever considered how your website’s loading time might impact your search engine rankings? It might be time to take a closer look at this as Google and Yahoo! have both brought some attention to the issue recently.
Google’s stance on the issue has always been that page load times do not have an impact in their algorithm – until now. As part of their initiative to speed up the web, Google have said that page load times could become a consideration in the future.

Interesting case I came across yesterday. A URL which 301 redirected went to different URLs in different browsers.
First thought – the server was redirecting different UAs to different pages. But no, the redirect was exactly the same regardless of UA.
So how come different browsers ended up in different locations? In fact the Location was the problem:
